Birthday dress

For Faith's second birthday, I made her a dress with some of the fabric I bought in York and New Look 6576.

My sewing machine was playing up so instead of buttons on the back, I sewed some ribbon loops between he back pieces and facings and laced it up.  I also added a couple of applique butterflies from the skirt fabric to break up the pink bodice.

Sun hat

Well, I had a bit of a nightmare this week so I didn't get round to doing my purse, but after 2 failed attempts at a pattern for Faith's sun hat, I gave up and used this pattern from Me Sew Crazy.  I still managed to mess up the first attempt, but this one turned out better:

Happy easter

Hope you've all had a good easter.  We spent the day in the park with Stuart's brother.  Faith had her first ice-cream (of her own).  I pretty impressed that she came away with just a bit of ice-cream on her chin - obviously takes after her mother not wanting to waste ice-cream!

nothing.

Last week was a terrible sewing week.  I walked past my sewing machine every evening and thought about getting it out to do something, but I couldn't get myself motivated.  This week though, I am trying to make up for it.  It took until last night for me to get the machine out, but I have made patterns for a hat for Faith and a purse, just need to choose the fabrics and get them sewn.

I am also taking part in Miss P's top draftalong which started this week.  I realised that I haven't sewn any clothes for myself since before I was pregnant so thought that would be a good place to start.

Dresses

I have been sticking to my one-project-a-week thing, but I lost my camera charger so couldn't take any photos until now.

Week 1

I used the giraffe fabric I got from York but thought it might be a bit to much giraffe so I made a pocket to look like one of the letter blocks also on the fabric.  I think it turned out pretty well but the pattern needs a bit of tweaking.

Week 2
This is the best photo I have at the minute - I haven't managed to pin Faith down for a photo in it yet.
It's the same pattern as the giraffe print, but I made a few changes and did bound buttonholes.  I'm still trying to decide whether it needs a pocket or not.
Don't know what my obsession with pockets is - it's not like Faith needs them!

Sunny days

We had a great weekend in Swindon meeting some of Dad's family

It was another warm day today so Helen and I took Faith to Whisby Nature Park.  For some reason she's attracted to nettles, we had to keep steering her away from them.

I'm rubbish at this whole blogging thing and after a long and confusing conversation with Stuart about why I don't post much and why I don't make much (or finish things that I start), I am setting myself a challenge:  one project a week for the rest of the year.

Hopefully that will help me get used to actually posting on here and not feeling completely inferior and stop caring about what people think so much.

In other news, I lost Faith today while she was banging about in the kitchen.  I was finishing a few things in the living room and when I went into the kitchen I couldn't see her anywhere.  I started panicking a bit before realising that she was playing hide and seek in her kitchen - I didn't know she could fit in the cupboard!

And I managed to get a nice photo of both of us

Viruses and travels

Not been able to get on the computer for a while because of stupid computer viruses.  Hopefully all been sorted now though.

I suppose there should be plenty to update.  Can't think of much though, so...

First things first, it felt very spring-like last week so we took Faith outside and chucked her about a bit:

Her new obsession is stacking anything she can get her hands on at any opportunity, including my shopping and Stuart's beer!

Spent last weekend in Scotland visiting Stuart's mum and sister.  Faith went into the garden with Nana Jo to pick snowdrops for me

This is the fabric I got in York, not sure what I'm doing with most of it yet but I've started a dress for Faith with the plain and butterfly pink.

Had a fantastic birthday - came downstairs this morning to balloons and banners around the living room and somes roses and chocolates on the fireplace.  Stuart had the day off so he took us out for a birthday breakfast and a shopping trip

S is for...

Thought it was fitting to have a sunflower on her quilt seen as this is one of favourite pictures of her

Faith decided to help her Dad when he was doing something to one of the cupboard doors:

He thought it was really cute until shwe started getting in the way!

O is for octopus

Since I posted the pic of the quilt, I stopped working on it until last night.  This is the latest square:

Got to find my list of what I'm doing for the rest of the alphabet now...

Fabric shopping with a 1 year old

Had a great day today - half our new kitchen is in (thanks Dad) and I got some new fabric, now I just have to decide what to make first.

I heard about a new fabric shop in town so we went to have a look this morning.  Faith was running all over the place picking bits of fabric out of a box and throwing it on the floor, picking up cushions and freaking out the shop assistant (why does she insist on staring at people so much?!)

Relaxing night tonight then swimming tomorrow

A walk in the park...

I'm almost on top of all the housework so this morning Faith and I took a quick drive down to the park to feed the ducks.  Unfortunately when we got there I realised I'd forgotten the bread, so she had to settle for scaring them away instead!

My sewing machine is in for a service so I'm using the time to finish a few projects, the main one being a crawl mat I started for Faith when she was 4 months old (never mind that she's walking now!).  I picked it up again last week and this is where I am now.  I'm aiming to do at least one sqaure a night.

My first step into the blogging realm...

... and I am terrified. I've been wanting to start a blog for a while now so I can keep track of my crafty pursuits and record all the tiny little day to day things that don't usually make it into our photo albums. So you can expect updates on all my latest projects, snippets of family live, random thoughts and inspiration.
